An extensive two-month cruise through Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The vessel departed without her and came back after some time after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive hunt found her remains the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside police and the medical examiner.

Head of the voyage organizer said that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" banning any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its return.
